Dr. Sam Staddon
Biography

Dr Sam Staddon is a Lecturer in Environment and Development in the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh. Sam's research focuses on the politics of and relationships involved in how we manage and engage with the environment. With a background in the natural sciences and career outside of academia in applied conservation, Sam is committed to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research.

Sam's academic interests and engagements are driven by a ‘politics of care’ and a relational approach to research ethics. Her interests in research ethics began during her PhD, including questioning how we might ‘give back’ to the communities with which we conduct research, and she has convened conference sessions on the ethics of global research and its funding. As Chair of the School of GeoSciences Ethics & Integrity Committee she is keen to promote the sharing of good ethical practice, and convenes a School seminar series and a monthly blog to do just this. Sam is very excited to have been invited on to the Ethical Global Research project.
